Organisational structure
Australian Hearing is the nation's largest provider of hearing services. It was established in 1947 to provide services to veterans who had suffered hearing damage during WWII, and also to assist children whose hearing was affected by a series of rubella epidemics.
Australian Hearing is a statutory authority constituted under the Australian Hearing Services Act 1991. We report to the Minister for Human Services.
Australian Hearing's three key areas are our:
- national network of hearing centres (Find us)
- head office in Chatswood, Sydney
- research by the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL)
Hearing centres are staffed by clinicians, technicians and customer support staff, and led by an area manager. We have 106 permanent centres and more than 285 visiting sites grouped into six regions, each managed by a general manager. Standards Advisers provide staff development, expert advice, review and set clinical standards, and monitor the quality of service delivery.
